Sher Insurance Group

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 July 2026

Sher Insurance Group (“SIG”, “we”, “us”) is an insurance brokerage based in Hamilton, Ontario, serving the Greater Toronto Area and all of Ontario. This policy explains what personal information we collect through sig.ca, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.

We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the rules that apply to licensed insurance brokers in Ontario.

This policy covers our website. If you become a client, additional information about how we handle your file may be provided to you at that time.

The short version

What we collect

When you simply browse

Nothing that identifies you by name.

Google Analytics records the visit: which pages you look at, roughly where you are (city level, worked out from your IP address, which Google does not pass on to us), the type of device and browser you are using, and whether you arrived from a search result, a link, or an advertisement. It sets cookies in your browser so that a return visit can be told apart from a first one. It never receives your name, email address or phone number, and we do not use it to work out who you are.

Google Ads measures our advertising. If you reach this site by clicking one of our ads, it records that the visit came from that ad, and whether you went on to ask us for a quote. It lets us tell which advertising is worth paying for. It does not receive what you typed into a form, and we do not use it to build an advertising profile of you or to follow you around other websites.

We do not run tag managers, heat-mapping, session recording, social-media pixels, and we do not embed third-party video or widgets. Our fonts are served from our own site, not from an outside font service.

Our hosting provider automatically processes standard technical information — such as your IP address and browser type — in order to deliver pages and protect the site from attack and abuse. We do not use that information to build a profile of you.

When you contact us or ask for a quote

Our contact form and quote wizard collect your name, email address, phone number, the type of insurance you are asking about, and whatever you write in the message field.

When you complete the full quote intake form

To obtain accurate quotes, insurers require considerably more detail. Our intake form collects:

Some of this is sensitive. We ask for it only because insurers require it to rate a policy, and we ask for it only when you have chosen to request a quote.

When you use the chat assistant

Our website offers a chat assistant called Allison, which answers questions using the content published on this site. Allison is automated software, not a person and not a licensed broker. It provides general information only — it does not give advice, quote prices, or confirm what any policy covers.

Your conversation is held in your own browser for the length of your visit and is discarded when you close the tab. We do not store chat transcripts. The messages you send are processed by our AI provider in order to generate a reply.

If you choose to give the assistant your name and contact details, those details are sent to a broker in the same way as a form submission, and are covered by the rest of this policy.

Please do not type policy numbers, payment or banking details, or other sensitive information into the chat. The assistant is instructed never to ask for them.

Why we collect it

We use your personal information to:

We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not profile you for advertising.

By submitting a form or giving your details in chat, you consent to us collecting and using that information for the purposes above. Where the information is sensitive — a driver’s licence number, for example — the act of submitting a quote request is your express consent for us to share it with insurers for that purpose.

Emails and text messages

When you make an enquiry we send you a confirmation by email, and by text message if you gave us a mobile number. These are a direct reply to a request you made. You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP, and you can ask us to stop emailing you by replying to any message or using the contact details below. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the details below. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer obtain quotes for you or service an existing policy, and we will tell you if that is the case. Some information must be retained where the law requires it.

Who we share it with

Insurers and their underwriters. To get you a quote or place coverage, we send the relevant information to the insurance companies we deal with. Each insurer handles your information under its own privacy policy.

Service providers who operate this website and our systems. We rely on a small number of outside companies to do the practical work of running this site and answering you. Between them they:

Each of them may use your information only to provide that service to us, under agreements that require them to protect it to a comparable standard. Most of them process information in the United States. We remain accountable for your information while they hold it. If you would like to know which companies these are, ask us and we will tell you.

Google is named here — Analytics for measurement, Ads for advertising — because you may want to switch them off. What they collect and how to opt out is set out under Cookies and tracking below.

Regulators, and where the law requires it. We may disclose personal information to our regulator, to law enforcement, or to a court where we are legally obliged or permitted to do so.

A successor. If our business is sold or reorganised, client information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to the same protections.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Where your information is stored

Some of our service providers store and process information in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country, and may be accessible to US courts and law-enforcement or national-security authorities under those laws. If you would rather not have your information processed outside Canada, contact us and we will discuss alternatives such as completing your application by phone or in person.

Cookies and tracking

This website uses analytics and advertising cookies. Google Analytics sets them so that it can tell a new visitor from a returning one, and group the pages you look at into a single visit. Google Ads sets them so that a visit arriving from one of our ads can be connected to a quote request, which is how we tell whether our advertising is working. They hold randomly generated identifiers — not your name, and not your contact details — and we do not use them to identify you.

The chat assistant stores your conversation in your browser’s session storage so that moving between pages does not lose the thread. It never leaves your device by that route, and your browser discards it when you close the tab. You can clear it at any time by closing the tab or clearing your browsing data.

How to turn this off. Install Google’s official opt-out add-on from tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, turn off ad personalisation at myadcenter.google.com, or block or clear cookies in your browser settings. The website works exactly the same either way, and nothing you do here affects a quote or an enquiry you have already sent us.

We do not use heat-mapping, session recording, or cross-site tracking.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and quote information for as long as needed to respond to you and, if you become a client, for as long as we act for you. After that, we keep records for the period required by Ontario insurance regulation, our professional obligations and applicable limitation periods, and then securely destroy them.

If you ask us to delete information we are not required to keep, we will.

How we protect it

Information submitted through this site travels over an encrypted connection. Access to enquiry and client information is limited to the people at SIG who need it to do their work, and to the service providers listed above under contract. We review our practices as our systems change.

No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Please do not send us sensitive information by ordinary email, and do not put payment or banking details into a web form or the chat.

Your rights

You have the right to:

To exercise any of these, contact our Privacy Officer below. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge for a routine request; if a request would involve significant cost we will tell you before proceeding. We may need to verify your identity before releasing information.

Children

This website is intended for adults arranging insurance. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Information about a minor is only ever collected from a parent or guardian in the course of arranging coverage.

Our pages link to third-party sites — for example insurer websites, rate-comparison resources, and videos hosted on YouTube. Following a link takes you to a site we do not control, with its own privacy practices. Nothing from those sites loads while you are on ours; they only receive information about you if you choose to click through.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or systems change. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be posted on this page.
